5th week

Although this is a short week, I wanted to make sure all students knew where they stood on their grades at the moment. I printed out progress reports on Friday.
The students were told they have until Wednesday, February 16th, to turn in any missing work and do tests that they had missed class during.
We normally do progress reports during week 6 and I have decided that Wednesday is the cut off day for make up work. Doing the school progress reports is very difficult and it is impossible to take last minute work and do all the grades.

ENGLISH - I have sent home questions for the weekend on "THE TRUTH." We are to the end of this novel and the students are being asked to answer questions on the last section of the book. I would prefer them to bring them to school typed on Tuesday the 22nd. This way they will not have the opportunity to get in trouble for not having the work, or copying the work when they get to school.

DEBATE - We are learning the types of arguments. Students are to work out arguments based on "Teen being sent to adult prisons". This is something that is easily searchable and they should have their own opinions to work from.

Have a great Break. See you on the 22nd.

Week 4

It is week 4 of the semester and Today in particular is COUNT DAY.

We are giving some opportunities for the students to get things, or a polo shirt day for being here on time for count day.
It looks like all of my First hour class managed to come to school today. We had one that waited until the last minute to join us, but we were all here. I am very proud of them all. So far, I have not heard of any other classes making that milestone.

This week in ENGLISH work:
Monday WW 10 c was due and we read "The Storyteller" in the Literature book.
Tuesday WW 10 d was due, and we did worksheets and questions from "The Storyteller".
Wednesday THE QUIZ for "The Storyteller" and a new grammar worksheet.
THURSDAY - WW 10e is due at the beginning of the hour, then we will do the crossword and take the quiz for Wordly Wise 10. There will also be some questions from "THE TRUTH".
Friday - We are going over work, grades and seeing where we are and starting to look at THEMES. Universal themes.

This Week in Debate work:
Monday - students needed to bring a AltaVista list on debate topics. Something printed from a computer. ONE person turned in homework.
Tuesday - the same assignment was due, I received a great deal more assignment. The students need to learn how to use the internet to get topics and information to come up with evidence for their debates.
Wednesday - the Last of the questions from the Chapters 1 - 3 were due. We spent the hour on the computers trying to find some information about Gun Violence and the possibility of making Gun manufacturers responsible for paying in gun violence.
Thursday - We are going to state our sides on the Gun issue. The students will need to share their evidence on the topic, did it reinforce their feelings, or did it contradict them.
Friday - we are going to talk about What specific things to type in to get different types of articles and information for evidence.

IN DEBATE: I hope to take the students to the Detroit Public Library soon, to do some real major research on a Topic to debate before the end of the Marking period. I would guess the last week in February at this point.
Thanks
have a great week.

Week 3

Monday of this week - we took the Wordly Wise quiz on Lesson 9.
Tuesday - we took the Quiz on "By the waters of Babylon"
Wednesday - we took a Truth Quiz, which has us up to page 250. We need to finish the book quickly.
Thursday - we will go over the 10a and 10b in the WW and start the next story.

Debate class - we just finished reading the Chapter 3 from the book in class. There is homework tonight of a newspaper article - we need it to decide if it is first or secondary source material.

Students are also to answer the discussion questions from the end of the chapter.

Many students are brushing off their homework and will be receiving detentions for failing to bring anything to class.
Thank you
Mrs. Frederick
