Welcome Back

Once again we are working hard in English 10. The 2nd FCA paper was assigned last week and the final draft is due on Friday. On Tuesday the rough draft is due and we will do peer editing and I will look at as many papers as possible.
Today I looked at papers and helped students as much as possible with writing this paper. Anyone who had work to show me today received Extra Credit.

Speech class. We need to work on making the introductions to the speeches interesting. Today we wrote about our holiday weekend in class. Tomorrow the students will share an interesting introduction for that writing. It needs to have something to catch our attention and then give three main points that would be found in a regular long speech.

Wordly Wise Quiz lesson 5 was today (or Wednesday) last week. We start WW 6A Tuesday night.

It is finally Thanksgiving

Happy Holiday to all. Thanksgiving is one holiday we can share as Americans no matter what your background is or religious affiliation. It is truly an American Holiday.

I am sorry to say that I needed to give the students some major homework for the weekend. They really need to work on their FCA 2 paper. I handed out the instructions on Tuesday, knowing that many students would not be coming to school on Wednesday this week.
We are having a quiz on the Wordly Wise lesson 5 today - WEDNESDAY. I could not just waste the day.

Speech class. I was rather disappointed in the speeches that were given on Tuesday. I gave the students over a week to research the topic that they chose. Everyone seemed to think that it wasn't very important and did not pay much attention to what I was looking for in this speech. They needed an INTERESTING introduction. We had talked about those in class some. We really are going to have to work on those.
The students also did rather poorly on a quiz on two articles. I gave them the questions to the quiz the night before and they did not bother to look up the answers, even with time given in class. I am Extremely disappointed. I may not ask for a lot of work from the speech students, but I expect the work I do ask for to be done, and done correctly.

Try and have a good weekend. Please finish the papers. All students at ORA are working on FCA papers this weekend.

Thursday - week flew by

English - We were very busy with quizzes once again. Grades are looking a tiny bit better at this point. We did 5a, 5b, 5c this week. 5c is due on Friday. I am also collecting the notebooks on Friday. We are also working on some Grammar. This is a good time, as we will be doing the next FCA paper over Thanksgiving Weekend.

Speech - We are working on a research speech at the moment. On Friday we are taking a quiz on the two most recent articles. Notes on doing a research speech and Introductions. The questions were given out on Thursday. We will do the speeches on Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

Student Lead Conferences

On Friday November 12, we are having Student Lead conferences at ORA.
I certainly hope to see all the parents in my first hour class. I have scheduled everyone and if you can not make it, make sure to contact the main office.
We open the doors at 1:55pm and Close the Doors at 8:00pm.
Each student is given 10 minutes to present their work, their grades and their understanding of what needs to be done to get better grades in this marking period.
PLEASE ARRIVE 10 minutes EARLY. IF WE HAVE TO WAIT That will throw off all the parents and students behind you. We have a tight schedule going on. Some parents have to go to work after coming here, so please be considerate of everyone.

New Marking Period

Monday - English classes - We took a little quiz on "The Truth" pages 71-81 everyone had at least 15 minutes to prepare for the quiz. We will take a little quiz on pages 81-91 on Tuesday. Section 4D is due from the Wordly wise on Tuesday.

Speech - We found an article on making interesting Introductions for speeches. We are going to work on our presentations for Student Lead conferences on Friday November 12th.

END OF THE MARKING PERIOD

I handed out grades to all students today, to give them an idea of what is going to show up on their report cards.
Many people need to give me their FCA paper in order to get any kind of decent grade in this class. The FCA paper will make or break your grade.

English 10 - 4b is your homework.

Speech - we took the questions to make the quiz today. I think we have 2 more speeches to go.

WEDNESDAY - Final Papers

English 10 - I regraded ALL the FCA papers that were handed in to me. A couple people could get a better grade by redoing it. I MUST have the redone paper by Friday.
THERE are still some students who owe me work and quizzes. YOU MUST TAKE THE QUIZ by Thursday 7th hour, or it will become a ZERO.

Speech - We will finish the speeches on Wednesday and write the quiz on the two articles we read in class together last week. We will have a short quiz on Friday.

FREEZING MONDAY

I am so sorry, for some reason the boiler is not working at school today and we are all cold. I certainly hope they have it fixed for school tomorrow. I know that I don't want to deal with this again.

ENGLISH 10 - Quiz on Wordly Wise section 3 in class. Please Study, they are now worth 16 points.

Speech - We have a speech due in class, with note cards are the subject choice you made on Friday. Please have them ready when you walk in the classroom.
