Week 2 is over

We have just finished week 2 in 2nd semester. There are a large number of 10th grade students who have become very lax in doing their homework.
ENGLISH
We have 2 sections of Wordly Wise done - 8 and 9 and there are at least 30 percent of the students missing something out of those 11 homework assignments.
We have taken 6 quizzes on the Truth. This seems to be the only way to get them to read the book. We started at 165 and now are at 250. I hope to finish the book in 2 weeks. Students have not asked me to make up quizzes they are missing, so if they are not in class to take the quiz, I am just putting in a zero.
GRADES DO NOT LOOK GOOD.
There will be an FCA paper to do in a week or so. We just finished reading one story and I hope to have another done by the end of next week.

DEBATE - they will receive chapter 3 in the book we are using on Monday. The students need to learn all the rules and definitions of things before we can start doing any debates.

FEBRUARY 4th. There will be NO SCHOOL for students on that day.

FEBRUARY 17 - 21 is the WINTER BREAK and there will be NO SCHOOL.

Thank you.

Sorry, Blogger has been giving me problems

Hello, and welcome to 2nd semester.
We have been at it for 2 weeks now. WOW

Ok, so far we have finished Lesson 8 in Wordly wise and have taken the quiz.
We are up to WW 9d now. That and WW 9c are due on Thursday, January 27, 2005.
Today we started reading the next story in class. "By the Waters of Babylon". This is a wonderful tale that keeps you guessing through the whole story.
We are working on the "POINT OF VIEW" of the story and what the author is sharing with us.

Speech has become Debate.

This semester I have found a book to use and am making copies for the students. They are to have a 3 ring binder to keep the chapters in and paper to do their work. This is really all that I am asking them to bring to class.

We have some major definitions to come to terms with before we can starting doing real debates. I hope to have one good debate before the end of this marking period, which will end on March 24th, before we leave for Spring Break.

Have a nice end of January.

FINAL EXAM RETAKE

I am very sorry, but I had to move my Final Exam retake day.
It will be Wednesday January 12th at 3:30 pm in my class room.

I was going to have it on Tuesday - but they scheduled a staff meeting at the same time.
Too many students skipped or were sick on Friday and Monday. It is sad to see this happening.
The test will be harder and longer.

The students had until the end of 7th hour today to finish their crossword puzzle section of the final. We have been working on it for 2 days.
If your student informs you that I did not give them time, they must have missed class for some reason.
Thanks
Mrs. Frederick

FINAL EXAMS

I hope everyone used the SNOW DAY on Thursday to their advantage to study for Final exams.
Right now some of the exams were pushed back a day. ENGLISH is now on Friday - Today.
Math exams are on Monday. I think the other exams are going to continue on their scheduled days.

If for some reason a student has MISSED the English 10 FINAL, I am planning to give the remake on TUESDAY at 3:30pm on January 11th.
I will not be using 7th hour for this purpose. YES, 3:30 pm is after school is out. The test will take at least an hour, probably an hour and a 1/2. The students were informed that if they missed my FINAL exam, the make-up exam would be HARDER and LONGER.

Please feel free to contact me at the school if you have any questions.

Happy New Year

Welcome back to ORA in January 2005.
We are getting right to the point here, Exams start on January 6, 2005 and run through January 14th.
The English exam comes first. We are scheduled to take the test on Thursday, the 6th.

In the event that we have a snow day on January 6th, we will be taking our exam on Friday.
I believe we will be able to push all the exams back on day. I have not discussed this with the administration yet.

We will have January 17th off of school to commemorate Mr. Luther King Jr.'s Birthday. I know there will be many activities students can attend around town to reflect on his work.

The grades from exams and the semester grades will be due in the main office by January 18th. Please be aware that report cards will take at least a week before they will be mailed. I understand wanting to know what the grades are right away, I would also. Our small problem is that their is not a connected computer system in the school to quickly do the grades. Thank you for you understanding.
