Weekend Work

All English Students at ORA have a test on Monday. We have all been reading "Big Black Good Man" by Richard Wright.
Many students have found this story to be interesting. They have 21 Vocabulary words to know the definitions for. There are 10 true and false questions, and some short answer and fill in the blank expected. Bring a book to class to read after the test.

Speech Students are starting work on a speech about "If I only had 24 hours to live."
We are discussing Speech Fright in class.

The books are in at Dearborn Borders.

Have a great weekend.

Speech students do not have any homework this evening.

English 10- So far this week we have gone over 13 vocabulary words from the story that we are reading in class. Students are to take the 13 vocabulary words and write informational sentences with the words, so that I will know they understand the meanings.

Fourth hour class also has a 2 paragraph essay to complete.

Monday we will have a quiz on the story and vocabulary words we have worked on all this week. BRING SOMETHING TO READ WHEN YOU FINISH THE QUIZ.
The students now have their English Books - except 1st hour. And we will start using the Word Wise Books on Tuesday, Make sure to bring them to class.

Ah ha, There really is not homework.
Please watch something to do a new Plot line when you come in.
Also, study the vocabulary words we went over in class. There will be many more tomorrow.
Please remember, we do not write in either the English 10 book or the Word wise book. They were passed out in class Wednesday. 1st hour will get their books tomorrow.
Have a great night.

Speech homework Wednesday

Watch people on Wednesday and write down the types of Non-verbal communication that you see happening. Do you think it works? Is it funny? Can you tell what they are talking about from across the room?

2nd Part - Try out the Bulgarian way of Head nods with someone. Shake means Yes, and Nod means no. Write down your observations. Did they participate? Did they think you were crazy?
Due when you walk in the class on Thursday.
Should be about a page long with your observations.

In English- We took the quiz on the vocabulary words.

Happy Weekend

Hello, I realized I forgot to put up the information about your paper due on Monday.

If you have not already finished printing out your paper, I would prefer it to be double spaced.
The homework is: 3 paragraph paper on all or one of the following - One goal for this semester, one success from last year, or one challenge from last year. Each paragraph needs to be 5 to 7 sentences long. Work for a beginning, Middle and End of the essay.

Please also remember we are taking a quiz on the Vocabulary words from earlier this week.
Good luck.

Have a great weekend.

Sample Writings

We worked on sample writings today in class. I was very pleased with the hard work everyone seemed to put into their papers. Everyone will receive credit for this work.
Third hour gained another 2 paragraph essay to work on this evening. I hope to see that when you walk in the door on Friday.
Please remember there will be a 3 paragraph typed essay due on Monday, and a quiz on the vocabulary words also.
We know that the books for class have been shipped and should arrive this coming week. Do not fear, we have already made plans without the books for English this coming week.
Have a great evening.

Welcome to the First week of School

We have already been very busy in the English and the Speech classes.
We have started with the procedures for how to enter, start class and obtain the teachers attention.

English 10 classes took the words found in the personal inventory sheet and created their first list of vocabulary words. We spent a little time checking definitions in the dictionary today and if that was not finished, it is now homework.
There will be a quiz on Monday, September 20th, on these words. The student will be asked to write a sentence that will give us context clues to what the word might mean. An example - The dog was very friendly, it would not stop wagging its tail.

Speech class - I am so proud to say that everyone came in with a speech, although most were not 2 minutes long. We used the words from English and wrote a short speech that helped to introduce the student to the rest of the class.

Thursday we will write 2 Paragraph Essays in class. For this weekend, the students will do a 3 paragraph essay and typed where possible.
They will receive the information of the proper style in class.
Have a great day.

NO HOMEWORK ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

WELCOME TO OLD REDFORD ACADEMY

Hello,

My name is Mrs. Frederick and I am the 10th grade English and the Speech class teacher.
I am creating this website, called a Blog, to keep the students and parents informed of what is happening in our classroom. I plan to update this page daily with the reading assignments, homework assignments and hopefully something about what we covered in class each day.

The students will receive my e-mail address in their syllabus and the address to this blog. They should mark this page as a "Favorite" on their home browser to make it easy to check the site each evening to see what is due the next day in class.

This site will only be used as an extra resource for the students with internet access at home. I will not post work on this site that was not assigned during class.

I hope we can make this a useful tool for the students and parents. Thank you for enrolling your child in Old Redford Academy preparatory High School.
